Learning Ideas

Several people have expressed an interest in getting together to work on teaching skills associated with the CSA.  We have a bunch of members who do a lot of canning and freezing, as well as folks who have very creative ideas when it comes to cooking, crafting, etc.

As it stands now, it sounds like folks would like to do this on Saturday mornings during pickup?  Is this the case?  What would you like to see?  Are there other times that would work better for folks?

  1. I want to learn to can! If someone is willing to teach, I'll offer my kitchen :) Saturdays are hit and miss for me (season tickets for UC football ~ Go Cats!). But Sundays are usually free if we're looking at the weekend. I have a bath pot and lots of jars, lids etc that can be used. Leeann

  2. Heather and I developed a whole "reskilling" calendar last year, only some of which was ever implemented. I will post the list of possible activities in the greenhouse- see if some interest you, from soap-making to canning, etc.

  3. This yearlong project envisions a series of hands-on classes enabling us to develop important skills and knowledge we’ll need moving into energy descent.

Workshops will cover related topics for +_month, geared to the seasons and moving logically from one theme to the next. Work-shops will be taught by different folks/organizations around the city. As part of the larger Transition movement, we’d hope to work with Imago, Civic Garden Center, Gorman Farm, Turner Farm, etc. Where other groups are already doing related projects, we can dovetail with them.

Imagine a wheel symbolizing the year, with a spoke for each month. Monthly themes will be developed around the following topics and sub-topics according to the season:
